In an ideal world we would all stick up for one another, adopting the adage to ‘live and let live’ – but, sadly, this is not the case for women and men all over the world.

 

This has never been more evident than in this viral Facebook post, in which a mother was forced to stand up against a woman shaming her for breastfeeding in public.

 

As Ashley Kaidel explains in her Facebook photo post, you would be forgiving for thinking that she is staring off into space while nursing her young son – but the reality is that she is staring down a woman who was looking at her “with disgust and shaking her head with judgement in an attempt to shame”.

Addressing this incident as well as previous calls for her to use a cover when breastfeeding in public, Ashley decided to stand up against the shaming by stating some hard facts.

 

Referencing those laws which accommodate public breastfeeding, along with the natural purpose of a woman’s breasts, Ashley urged those judging to consider how important it is for children to witness breastfeeding and learn about its importance.

 

“I post this to give mamas encouragement. And to encourage others to make breastfeeding mothers feel accepted and supported; not alienated, ridiculed and judged,” wrote Ashley.

 

Fair play to this mum for hitting back against this disgraceful shaming. We’re sure her post will inspire and encourage many other mums.
