Pregnancy is one of the most special times in a woman’s life, so it is always disappointing to hear when a mum-to-be experiences negativity regarding her body image.

This is exactly what American meteorologist Kristi Gordon of Canadian outlet Global News has had to deal with this week.

Mum-to-be Kristi has this week taken the opportunity to address some hate mail she recently received about her maternity style.

Addressing the critics during a news segment, Kristi read out a line from one viewer’s letter, which read: “Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you.”

Meanwhile, another nasty viewer wrote: “Buy some decent clothes and have some respect for your unborn child. You’re not the first pregnant woman.”

Another viewer even had the audacity to tell Kristi that “looser tops would look more professional”.

While Kristi and show anchors Squire Barnes and Robin Stickley expressed shock tinged with amusement over the comments, the mum-to-be admitted that they had irked her.

Indeed, she admitted that having checked herself out in the mirror and asked her husband if she had gotten ‘really big’, it was only when she got to bed that night that she realised just how much the comments had affected her.

“It’s amazing – when you say something mean about someone, it still affects them,” she said.

We can’t believe someone would have the nerve to make such comments about any person, never mind a pregnant woman in the media spotlight. We hope those viewers are ashamed of themselves.
