She may have been silent on social media in the weeks following the birth of her first child, but since TV presenter Natalie Pinkham has returned to the limelight, she has been extremely candid about her traumatic labour experience.

The Formula 1 presenter, who welcomed son Wilf with husband Owain back in January, previously revealed that she almost died after suffering postpartum pre-eclampsia and other complications.

Now, sharing the first family photos with Hello! magazine, the 36-year-old has recalled the experience and how it has affected her in the aftermath of Wilf’s birth.

“I have come away from all of this with two things; one a beautiful, gorgeous baby boy, and also a total understanding that women need to talk about what happens to them when things go wrong,” said the new mum.

Natalie went into labour six days after her due date, eventually undergoing an emergency Caesarean section. Her hospital stay was extended for another 10 days due to complications following the birth.

Praising a female consultant who encouraged her to talk about her trauma, Natalie said: “I feel she gave me that freedom to talk and to cry and that it was actually okay to do that. I think it’s important other women know that, too.”

We are so glad that Natalie has spoken out about her experience, and no doubt it will encourage other mums in similar situations to share their feelings and to heal.
