Having tied the knot in 2002 after seven years of dating, it has been announced that Bush front man, Gavin Rossdale, and his wife of thirteen years, Gwen Stefani, have decided to go their separate ways.

Citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the motivation for their divorce, the couple, who share three children together, insist the decision was mutual.

Commenting on the sad news which has stunned the music industry this morning, the pair released a joint statement asserting that the wellbeing of their three sons took precedence at this heartbreaking time.

Elaborating on their decision, the former couple explained: "While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment."

It is understood that the couple, who welcomed their youngest child just 17 months ago, intend to seek joint custody of their sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo.

Having met when No Doubt opened for Bush in the mid 90s, the couple enjoyed a high-profile romance which overcame numerous obstacles including the revelation in 2004 that Gavin had fathered a child with British fashion designer Pearl Lower fourteen years previously.

The couple were last seen in public together when taking part in 4th of July celebrations at the home of their childrens' maternal grandparents.
