She has previously shared insights into the difficulties that she and her family have faced since her husband’s health battle began, but the latest revelation from this world-famous singer brings the heartbreak of the situation home.

Celine Dion has opened up about husband René Angelil’s battle with throat cancer in an emotionally-charged interview, revealing that the couple have had some intense conversations about the future.

Speaking to USA Today, the 47-year-old recalled a recent exchange during which 73-year-old René told Celine of his final wish.

“I’ll say, ‘You’re scared? I understand. Talk to me about that.’ And René says to me, ‘I want to die in your arms.’ Ok, fine. I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms,” said the singer.

The couple have three children together, and while Celine was adamant about putting her career on hold to care for her husband, he recently insisted that she return to her Las Vegas residency.

“Don’t forget, he’s been the leader of the band all my life. So it hacks him off not to see me all day and over here working. But he wants me to do this, do the show, do the interviews. But he freaks when I’m not home with him, too,” she said.

Looking to the future, the Because You Loved Me star added: “When it hits me, it’s going to hit me. But my biggest job is to tell my husband, ‘We’re fine. I’ll take care of our kids. You’ll watch us from another spot.’”

René underwent surgery to have a malignant tumour removed from his neck back in 1998. Two years ago, he had another procedure for throat cancer and has been battling the illness ever since.
