We have seen some pretty terrifying ‘pranks’ involving texts and social media, but this one has to be one of the worst.

As parents, the health, safety and wellbeing of our children are top of our priority list – which is why we really feel for the mum in this story.

Teenager Lily Sharp recently decided to play a little prank on her mother, pretending that she had been kidnapped by an imposter at her home, proceeding to share the details of her ‘joke’ on social media.

Lily’s ruse has since done the rounds online, and we can see why!

In screenshots of text messages shared via social media, Lily texts her poor mother, writing: “You didn’t tell me the decorator man was coming mate! I thought I was guna get taken man…Thought he was tryna trick me into getting into the house…Not happy young lady [sic].”

Needless to say, there is no decorator, and Lily’s mum is filled with an instant fear, as seen in her replies back: “Whaaaat? What decorator?!?!! Call me!! There is no decorator.”

It is Lily’s terrifying response, supposedly from the ‘decorator’, which is the most chilling of all, reading: “She knows that now.”

In the exchange that follows, Lily texts her mum pretending to be ‘Victor’, an intruder who claims to have Lily, and who is demanding £4000 ransom.

The extent of Lily’s mother’s terror is clear from her texts, in which she says to expect a call from the police.

When Lily finally reveals that she is in fact safe and well, and that it was all a joke, her mum is not a happy camper. We have refrained from publishing her expletive-filled reply!

We bet Lily received quite the telling-off after her mum returned home.
