Much of his public image centres around a tough guy exterior, and as an ex pro-wrestler and fitness enthusiast, this actor appears to revel in this particular perception of him.

However, Dwayne Johnson, more commonly known as The Rock, chose to offer up an alternate image of himself while appearing on a recent episode of Oprah's Master Class.

The actor, who is proud the father of a 14-year-old daughter with his ex-wife Dany Garcia, revealed that he has, in the past, struggled with mental illness - a period in his life which left a lasting impression on the popular star.

The Rock, who is now expecting his first child with current partner Lauren Hasian, admitted that he desperately needed support during that bleak time, but was unsure how or where to receive it.

Speaking on the show which is due to air in the States tonight, the 43-year-old explained; "I found that with depression one of the most important things you could realise is that you're not alone."

Offering hope to fans and followers in a similar situation, the actor continued: "You're not the first to go through it, you're not going to be the last to go through it and often times you feel like you're alone and you feel like it's only you and you're in your bubble."

Reminding viewers that support networks do exist, the soon-to-be dad-of-two continued: "I wish I had someone at the time who could just pull me aside and say Hey, it's going to be OK."

We're sure the star's words of support will touch the hearts of many.
