Most people just assume that putting food in the fridge will make it last longer.

 

Well, it turns out that this is NOT the case!

 

There are certain foods out there that will last far longer if stored in a dry place!

Tomatoes

 

Cold temperatures mess with the texture of a tomato, and makes the tomato mushy.

Garlic

 

Garlic likes to go off pretty quickly in the fridge, it’ll grow mould and go rubbery-soft when put into the fridge.

Onions

 

Onions tend to become incredibly mushy or mouldy if left in the fridge for too long.

Avocado

 

Putting an avocado in the fridge will just completely stop it from ripening, much like the banana, it practically freezes in time.

Honey

 

Putting honey into the fridge will increase the speed of the sugar crystallisation which turns it into an almost dough-like form.

Strawberries

 

Keeping berries in the fridge can make them rot much faster due to moisture. They'll be better off in a bowl on the counter.

Bananas

 

Cold temperatures basically freeze bananas, hindering their ability to ripen.

Potatoes

 

Cold temperatures will generally break down the starch within potatoes.

Bread

 

The cold temperature of the fridge promotes the bread to become stale far more quickly.

Coffee

 

When placed in the fridge, coffee absorbs any smell that’s in your fridge and the whole batch will never go back to it’s original flavour.
