Being a new mum is exhausting and while the only real way to help it is to head to bed, it is not really possible when you have a little infant to care for!

 

Thankfully, by watching your diet and eating certain foods, you can feel a little more energised.

 

Almonds

Packed with Omerga-3 and Omega-6, potassium, iron and protein, these nuts will not only help you regain your strength, but they are also good for your cardiovascular system.

 

Bananas

Bananas are rich in potassium which will help replace what is lost while sweating and it also helps to slow down digestion, which can help you feel more energised for longer.

 

Blueberries

A few blueberries in your porridge in the morning will help to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. Rich in fibre - which helps energy to release slowly, vitamin C and K and antioxidants, blueberries are a real feel good fruit.

 

Dark chocolate

Containing theobromine, a natural stimulant, a square of chocolate with at least 70% cacao a day is good for your energy and even for your love life!

 

Eggs

Packed with protein, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, vitamin B12 and B6 essentials to satisfy hunger and sustain energy, they also are great at maintaining muscle mass.

  

Grapefruit

A grapefruit will help to lower your insulin levels, and then transforms the calories in your body to energy. It also helps you feel more focused during the day – an inability to concentrate is one of many symptoms of exhaustion.

 

Oranges

The vitamin C in oranges help to give you a burst of energy and the citrus scent can actually soothe you.

 

Pumpkin seeds

A good source of protein, fibre and healthy fats they help you feel full and more energised for longer.

 

Quinoa

A gluten-free grain, it is rich in amino acids, lysine, methionine, phosphorus and manganese which all help to maintain long-lasting energy levels.

 

Spinach

Iron is important to help you feel energised and spinach is packed full of the stuff. It is also packed with calcium, vitamin C, antioxidants and magnesium to help you feel less exhausted and concentrate better.
