It's fair to say, the vast majority of us would happily emerge from our beds a full dress size smaller in the morning, but we all know it takes time and effort to reach our diet and fitness goals - something many people forget when they urge us to reduce our body weight before December 25th.

Along with carol singing, mulled wine and mince pies, the festive season also signals an onslaught of 'slim down for Christmas' headlines which urge us to drop a dress size in time for the office party or school pageant.

And while there's nothing remotely wrong with gearing up for the excesses of Christmas by keeping on the straight and narrow in the weeks preceding it, it can be a little bit frustrating to be confronted with endless articles which demand we lose weight while we trip over tins of chocolates and splash out on cheese boards for Christmas shindigs.

Here are just ten thoughts most of us ladies have during this time.

1. These people clearly haven't tasted my mother-in-law's cheesecake.

Have a slice and then get back to me.

2. Yes, because a 6am run is definitely on the agenda with three kids, an overflowing laundry basket and sub-zero temperatures.

After you, please.

3. Unless I work from the office toilet, there's no way I can avoid those Christmas cookies for an entire nine hours.

I'm only human.

4. Fine, fine I'll have a green tea!

But only with a mince pie or three.

5. Cut out carbs?

Is chocolate a carb?

6. Why should I be a dress size smaller in time for Christmas?

Who makes up these ridiculous rules?

7. If I didn't drop a dress size in time for bikini season, I'm not dropping one in time for onesie season.

Makes no sense.

8. It's cold out and they want me to munch on carrots and celery?

Pass the damn fruit loaf.

9. Cut down on booze?

During the year's biggest party season? Good one.

10. I'll only ruin all my good work over the Christmas holidays, so why set myself up for failure?

Best to start in January!
