Being a brilliant mum isn't all taking the kids to Disneyland or being able to prepare many wholefood dishes with a large kale bias (AND managing to get the kids to eat them). It's the little things, the everyday things, the small proclamations of love that add up every minute of every day to make you a GREAT MUM.

Like these:

1. The first thought when you woke up today wasn’t about you, it was about your children.

2. You always let the kids pick the movie. Even if it is Aladdin. For the 3467th time.

3. You managed to clean up all manner of gross bodily goo today without puking.

4. When your child asked you to taste the Play Doh ‘cake’ they made you put a bit in your mouth and began to chew – so as not to offend them.

5. When your Boasty McBoasterson neighbour told you all the amazing things her children have done you held it together and said, “Good for them, you must be very proud” instead of screeching “SO WHAT! MY CHILDREN ARE A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN YOURS! IF I HAVE TO HEAR ABOUT HOW GREAT LITTLE CASEY IS ONE MORE TIME IM GOING TO KICK OVER HER WENDY HOUSE!”

6. You might be broke, but you’ll be damned if the kids don’t have every last thing they need for school.

7. Your kids are fed, warm and safe. You did that.

8. You tell your children how much you love them. Every hour, every day, even if it annoys them. Kisses too. Sloppy ones.

9. You step back when your kids need space, even though what you really want is to grab them, hold them close to you and never let GOOOO.

10. You have long, serious conversations with your kids about what’s important to them – whether that’s ‘Lisa with the yellow hair from school’ or Ben 10 or why if the earth is round we don’t fall off?

11. You laugh your head off with your children. 'Cos they're the funniest people in the world right?

12. When your kids are upset it takes all of your strength not to dramatically screech to the heavens, “GIVE ME THEIR PAIN GOD AND LET ME MAKE IT MY OWN!”

13. If your child doesn't like someone, in solidarity you won't either. Which is why you've had a grudge against Josh McClure for the past five years and you've never even met the poor lad.

14. You would give your child your last chip. And we all know chips are precious. That's love that is.
