There have been a number of baby- and birth-related records made already in 2015, but there was one very significant birth in Britain in 2014.

According to statistics released this week, Britain’s biggest baby was born last year weighing in at 15lb 10oz. The previous record-holder, Guy Carr, was born in 1992 and weighed in at 15lb 8oz.

While the identity of the child and its mother have not yet been released, it was confirmed that the baby was born at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

Elsewhere, at Leeds Teaching Hospital, another mum gave birth to a child weighing in at a whopping 15lbs 4oz.

The news of these cases comes as medical experts revealed that there has been a trend for heavier babies in recent times, with almost 1,000 babies born in 2014 weighing more than 11 pounds.

Commenting on these latest statistics, an expert told The Sun that rising levels in adult obesity could be to blame for the increase in weight and size of newborns in Britain.

Tam Fry of the National Obesity Forum said: “Obese mums-to-be are most likely to have fat children whose health may be severely affected from the day they are born.”
