When it comes to looking after our body we all know that exercise and a good diet are so important. However, our brain also needs to be looked after in order to keep it happy and healthy, and it's actually pretty easy to do.

To give your brain power a bit of a boost, add the following five food items to your diet from today:

1. Oily fish

Not only is it good for your skin, but the Omega-3 in fish can help lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Salmon, sardines and herring are perfect for lunch and dinner; try to consume fish at least twice a week.

2. Broccoli

Thanks to the Vitamin K, broccoli is great at giving your brain a real boost. You can make broccoli chips, pop it in a stir fry or enjoy it with your roast dinner - whatever you decide it is guaranteed to be delicious.

3. Lentils

Lentils are chock full of folate which can help improve brain function as they decrease the level of amino acids. Throw a few into your weekly curry and enjoy!

4. Leafy green vegetables

Foods like spinach, kale and lettuce, are packed full of vitamins and minerals as well as fibre and are great little brain boosters. Easy to throw into a korma or even in a salad.

5. Walnuts

Throw a few walnuts in your salad or even snack on them throughout the day to get your DHA, a type of Omega-3 fat that helps promote brain healing.
