No matter how much you try to keep your toddler as germ-free as possible, they will end up touching and even putting in their mouth items riddled with viruses and bacteria without you ever realising it. Even if you clean and disinfect your home regularly, your  little one is bound to pick up a few germs outside.

Here are the worst culprits for harbouring those unwanted nasties:

Money

Kids love money, counting it and generally just carrying it around in their hands, but did you know how many germs are on just one coin. While the paper variety harbours more, you are likely to find viruses and bacteria if you look close enough.

Shopping trollies

You might not have really thought about it but you will now. When you consider the amount of people that a shopping trolley is used by on a daily, weekly or monthly basis you will think twice before you say it’s ok if your little one puts their mouth on it. While they aren’t exceptionally dirty, when you consider that not everyone washes their hands after the toilet you might want to wash yours after doing the shopping.

Public toilets

Toddlers regularly need to use the bathroom and public toilets can, unsurprisingly, harbour many germs. Now we aren’t suggesting that the cleaners of said bathrooms aren’t doing their jobs right but when you consider the number of people using it on a daily basis, some touching door handles after not washing their hands, you will be a little more wary.

Car seat

Your little one’s car seat is also home to numerous bacteria including E. Coli among many that are too long to pronounce; you will find more germs than even the toilet seat in your home. So make sure you regularly give your little one’s seat a once over with disinfectant.

Schoolbag

The bag that your little one brings with them to playschool is another culprit. Crumbs, squashed banana and spilt juice can congeal in hard-to-reach corners and sitting on the ground all day is another way that they can pick up some unwanted guests.
