January's bad rap is justified – it’s cold, it’s dark and we’re on the Christmas comedown. Plus we’ve eaten so much over the holidays that we're not allowing ourselves anything nice. Boo.

And so while we understand that you want to crawl under the duvet until it’s spring, we're just not allowed to (because the world is mean).

Here are five simple ways to make January MUCH more bearable:

1. Shop

It’s sale time! So what if you’ve just spent the national debt over Crimbo – January is the best time of the year to pick up some brilliant bargains so go on out there and shop. Yep, we realise we’re enabling you but if there’s any time you need a bit of retail therapy it’s January.

2. Make January ‘movie month’

All those films you’ve been meaning to watch? Those classics you keep promising yourself you’ll get round to? Why not make January ‘movie month’ and plough through them? Plus you get to cosy up on the sofa – win-win!

3. Enjoy healthy ‘milkshakes’

Super smoothies are a brilliant way to get your treat fix in January without eating crap. Stock up on yummy smoothie ingredients like cacao powder, almond milk, nuts and berries and fling into the blender to create thick, creamy drinks that taste just like ‘bold’ milkshakes.

4. Substitute booze with mocktails

If you’re having a dry January mocktails are a great alternative to alcohol. And because we’re nice like that we have a list of delicious mocktail recipes here for you to try.

5. Get some Vitamin D

Vitamin D is ESSENTIAL for women in the wintertime. It regulates our moods and hormones and without it, quite frankly, our bodies go a bit mad. And as we’re not exactly being drenched in sun at the moment, chances are we’re deficient. Pick up a supplement and stock up on foods high in Vitamin D like oily fish.
