Travelling by plane with kids is tough enough without your little one getting sore ears from the change in pressure.
No mum likes to see their little one uncomfortable or in distress, and it can be tricky trying to soothe them when you are in such a confined space.
Thankfully, there are a number of things you can do to make them feel better.
1. Give them plenty of water
The drier the air the higher the risk of your nasal cavities becoming clogged and swollen. Not only will the water encourage swallowing it will also keep your little one hydrated.
2. Give older children a hard sweet to suck on
Again, the swallowing will help them to keep their airways open and clear, but should only be given to older children - lollipops work really well and you can monitor them closely.
3. Younger ones can chew on a piece of fruit
Again, just make sure you keep an eye on them at all times.
4. Give them a drink during take-off and landing
Whether you are breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or your little one has graduated to a sippy cup, make sure they are drinking when their ears are more likely to be affected by the change in pressure - take-off and landing.
5. Keep them awake during take-off and landing
It is harder for kids to regulate their ear pressure when they are asleep so try to keep them awake when you are going up or coming down.
