The phrase ‘going on a detox’ suggests embarking on a journey of epic proportions, but you don’t need to have a total and complete lifestyle overhaul in order to get healthy. Here are seven simple ways to detox your body this month.

1. Up your Vitamin C intake

Vitamin C is the greatest weapon in your detox armoury, neutralising toxins through the production of essential liver compounds. It also plays a pivotal role in fighting bacteria and illness, so up the intake of Vitamin C-rich foods such as oranges, carrots and broccoli.

2. Drink more water

It’s a laboured point at this stage, but that’s exactly how important it is! Experts recommend that women consume 2.5 litres of water a day in order to flush out waste and toxins, and keep our bodies running. If you’re not a fan, add a slice of lemon or lime to make it that little bit more palatable.

3. Fit in a smoothie

Whether you drink it as your breakfast or fit it in as a snack, a smoothie packed with fresh fruit and vegetables will work wonders during a detox. Be sure to pack in plenty of berries and veg such as avocado, which are loaded with antioxidants.

4. Get more sleep

Sleep is essential in order to allow our bodies repair and renew themselves, so constant late nights are not advised in any situation. Try your hardest to get your recommended eight hours in order to ensure that your body is firing on all cylinders.

5. Dry-brush your skin

Detoxifying the body also comes down to what you do to the outside, and dry-brushing your skin with a specialised brush (available in most pharmacies) will rid it of toxins via the pores.

6. Substitute regular tea for green tea

Green tea is renowned for its detoxifying capabilities and for boosting the metabolism, so it’s a great way to kick-start your system first thing in the morning. The only downside here is the unpleasant taste, but this can be easily rectified with a slice of lemon.

7. Get a little exercise, daily

There’s simply no escaping it – exercise is one of the best ways to detoxify the body. Not only are you breaking down fats within, but you’re also sweating and breathing out toxins during a workout. Even if it’s just a 20-minute walk, boost that detox with a little exercise each day.
