We’re all about beauty hacks that are quick and easy, inexpensive and make us look and feel bee-yoo-tiful.

Which is why we’re ALL about the baking soda. Did you know the humble store cupboard essential has umpteen brilliant beauty uses?

1. Bright, white teeth

Mixing a little baking soda with water, and using it to brush your teeth lifts stains and leaves your gnashers clean and bright, especially when you want your smile to look its best before a big event. However, we advise you do this occasionally, as you don’t want to damage your tooth enamel.

2. Fresh breath

Whereas some mouthwashes just cover up bad odours, baking soda actually neutralises them. Just mix a little with water and give it a good swish around your mouth.

3. Super soft skin

Baking soda works a treat as a gently exfoliating facial scrub. Mix three parts baking soda with one part water and rub on the skin, before rinsing clean with warm water. Trust us, your skin will never have felt so squeaky clean!

4. Clean, shiny hair

If you use a lot of products in your hair, baking soda is a champion clarifier. Add a little in with your shampoo and rinse thoroughly – et voila! – clean and shiny hair, free from residue.

5. Healthy circulation

Exfoliating your body is an important step in you beauty routine: not only does it slough off dull, dead skin cells, allowing fresh new skin to peep through, it’s also essential for healthy circulation. Simply mix two parts baking soda with two parts water, and in the shower massage it all over your bod in a circular motion towards the heart.

6. Soft, smooth feet

Baking soda is the business for softening hardened feet. Create a home foot spa by filling a basin with warm water, three tablespoons of baking soda and your favourite essential oil. Soak your footsies for 20 minutes and when you take your feet out they’ll be gloriously soft and smooth.

7. A fresh blowdry (or so they’ll think!)

Fake a fresh blowdry by using baking soda as a dry shampoo. They’ll never know!

8. Clear skin

Baking soda has long been used in the fight against the dreaded acne. It dries out pimples and removes excess oil from the skin, and as well as this has mild anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Mix two parts baking soda with two parts water to form a paste, apply to your spots and leave to dry for 15 minutes. We advise that you use this no more than twice a week though, as baking soda can be a little drying.
