Being a mum is a world apart from the one you knew previously. While there are many, many things we can still do, there are quite a few that we can’t:
Go to the toilet alone
Whether they wait for you outside or practically sit on you while you are on the loo, going to the toilet on your own without any interruptions is a privilege, for the very few.

There is always going to be someone with you. Always. Even when you go to the toilet - see above.
Enjoy your hangover
If you were lucky enough to get out in the first place for a few drinks, don’t expect to be able to spend the day nursing your hangover. Babies don’t let you lie in and older children want you to do stuff with them – not lie on the couch all day.
Eat what you want
Now that you are a mum, you need to be set a good example and this includes what you eat. No longer can you scoff biscuits into your face before dinner or eat a whole tub of ice-cream – if you don’t allow your children to do it, you certainly can’t either.
Enjoy a lie in
Motherhood means you need to say goodbye to your Saturday morning lie-ins. Babies like to get up early - really, really early.
Enjoy frivolous spends
No longer will you be able to simply walk into a shop and treat yourself to those heels that you know you really don’t need. That 50 euro now needs to be spent more wisely, either on food or some kind of afterschool activity. Plus you will probably never wear those shoes – it’s all about being comfy these days.
A good proper clean
Seriously, whether you work full time or not, there just never seems to be enough time to give the house a good proper clean. The 'things to do' list is endless and you always seem to be chasing your tail – and as you give the kitchen counters a quick wipe with disinfectant, the cobwebs grow bigger and bigger over the shower. You'll get to them some day.
Finish a sentence
It is a privilege to get to finish a sentence without having to shout ‘put that down, ‘stop jumping on the chair’ or ‘stop picking your nose’. Oh to be able to have a proper adult conversation.
At the end of the day though, we wouldn't change our lives for the world.
