A baby is a baby: Sophie Ellis-Bextor hits back at claims she wanted a daughter

Sophie Ellis-Bextor confirmed the birth of her fifth child yesterday and we couldn’t be happier for the mum.

The singer gave birth to a healthy baby boy who weighed 7lb 1oz. Gushing about her baby boy, Sophie revealed they called him Mickey and that he is ‘absolutely gorgeous’.

Following the birth of her darling boy, reports emerged claiming that Sophie hinted at wanting a baby girl.

Sophie is also a mum to four boys-13-year-old Sonny, nine-year-old Kit, five-year-old Ray and three-year-old Jesse.
The Murder on the Dancefloor singer has strongly hit back at the ludicrous reports in a powerful tweet.

In response to the rumours, she tweeted: “I did nothing of the sort. I’ve only ever wanted whatever babies I’ve been lucky enough to have.”

Fellow mums were quick to praise Sophie for her snappy response.

“Well said. A baby is a baby! Congratulations,” one said.

Another mum added: “I was asked after the birth of my second son “Are you going to try for a girl now?” I was lucky enough to have two healthy happy boys, not everyone gets that chance! I just don’t get some people!”

“How bloody annoying when people assume you wanted a certain gender, having had three girls, people always judge! I wanted a big family and healthy children!” another mum explained.

We couldn’t agree with Sophie more. All that matters is that the baby is happy and healthy.

Huge congratulations to her on the birth of her beautiful baby boy.
