What an inspirational little lady!

Little Helena Lang was born with Diastrophic Dysplasia dwarfism, a condition that affects the growth of bones and cartilage – and despite ‘dying’ three times, the little miracle has just celebrated her first birthday.

Helena has been through so much – when she was born she was missing her trachea and couldn’t breathe, but after making it through her first night she stabilised.

From then it was struggle after struggle, spending the first three months of her life in hospital. Her ears swelled, leaving her partially deaf, webbing was removed from her oesophagus to help her breathe and she had to be fed through a tube. On two occasions she even nearly choked to death after having an excess of fluid in her mouth.

She has also underwent multiple procedures to improve her airway as well as castings to correct her club feet and a Pavlik harness to realign a dislocated hip.

But despite her challenges, the little fighter has overcome every obstacle, and although she still undergoes various procedures and constant check-ups, she is a happy, thriving little girl.

“We brought our girl home on the 29th of September, and have loved every single second spent with her,” said her dad Jakob Lang. “We are so immeasurably proud of how strong she has been.

“She has met all her milestones as a ‘normal’ baby would and continues to exceed any expectations we have of her. Helena is the absolute love of our life and we couldn’t be any more blessed.”

Now the Disney princess-loving little girl has beaten all the odds to celebrate her first birthday. And like any princess aficionado worth her salt, she was kitted out in style!

“Dealing with Helena's diagnosis has been heartbreaking, but dressing her up in beautiful dresses gives us a sense of normality away from all her medical appointments and visible differences,” Jakob told Mail Online.

“She’s such a tiny baby but she's full of personality and will do anything to make me and Jakob laugh,” she told Mail Online.

“I couldn't imagine out lives without her and celebrating her first birthday on Saturday brought back so many emotions.

“We never imagined we'd hit this milestone, after doctors warned us she was too weak to take her first breath and then passing away three times in her first few weeks of being alive.”

Happy birthday little lady!
