It’s been a whirlwind week for Kate Middleton. It was revealed that she is pregnant with her third child on Monday, and yesterday she won €100,000 (£92,000) in damages from a case taken against a French magazine.

A court in Provence ruled that French magazine Closer had invaded Kate’s privacy by taking photos of her sunbathing topless through a long lens camera, and publishing them in 2012.

It’s believed that Kate will donate the money to charity, according to the BBC.

Lawyers for the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William had initially sought a sum of €1.6 million in damages.

The presiding judge also ordered regional French newspaper La Provence to pay a sum of €3,000 in damages, for printing photos of Kate in swimwear.

A statement from Kensington Palace read: "This incident was a serious breach of privacy, and their Royal Highnesses felt it essential to pursue all legal remedies.

"They wished to make the point strongly that this kind of unjustified intrusion should not happen.”

Yesterday, Prince William made his first public appearance since announcing the couple’s happy news.

He attended the National Mental Health and Policing conference in Oxford, England, to speak about his experiences as a first responder.

When congratulated on his good news, he replied: “Thank you, it's very good news."

“There's not much sleep going on at the moment,” he added, referring to the fact Prince George will start school this week, also.

Alluding to Kate’s battle with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, he said that the pregnancy had been “a bit anxious to start with". However, he said the couple had been able to “start celebrating this week”.

It’s believed that Kate is 11 weeks pregnant, but she had to announce her pregnancy early because her condition prevented her from carrying out royal duties.

On Monday, Kensington Palace released a statement to confirm that Kate was expecting her third child.

“Her Royal Highness will no longer carry out her planned engagement at the Hornsey Road Children’s Centre in London today,” a statement from the Palace read.

We wish Kate all the best – such an exciting time ahead!
