It was only recently that the world was left astonished by the story of how doctors used Google Cardboard to save a baby’s life, and now a sandwich bag is the focus of one British tot’s path to health.

Devon couple Jennifer and Jonathan Derwent have praised staff at their local hospital for nursing their son Isaac to full health, after he was born 10 weeks premature.

The Derwents shared their story with The Express, with Jennifer revealing that she knew something was up when she began experiencing stomach pains while out shopping. Her concerned husband then decided not to take any risks, and drove her to nearby Derriford Hospital, in Plymouth.

Baby Isaac was born shortly after, 10 weeks ahead of schedule, weighing just 3lbs 11oz. One of the first things the doctors did was wrap the tot in a sandwich bag, to keep him warm while they transferred him to his incubator.

Admitting that she was ‘shocked’ to see her newborn placed in the plastic bag, Jennifer told The Express: “We do have a picture of him in it, which I am sure we can all laugh about when he gets older. But it kept him warm and helped him get better.”

Modern medicine is quite fascinating.
