We previously reported on the incredibly sad circumstances of the custody battle between actress Kelly Rutherford and her husband, and the extent of the star’s devastation was clear for everyone to see during a live interview last night.

The Gossip Girl star recently lost custody of her two children, following the deportation of her former husband Daniel Girsch to France.

Appearing on ABC News last night, 46-year-old Kelly’s devastation was tangible as she broke down in tears over losing her eight-year-old son and five-year-old daughter.

“I know it’s not right. Parents know. Everyone knows it’s not right!” insisted an emotional Kelly through her tears.

The dramatic custody battle for children Hermes and Helena played out for six years, with judges finally ruling this month that the children are to live with their father.

“My children were not only taken away, but they were sent to a foreign country. I don’t know how you even explain to someone what it feels like!” added a distraught Kelly.

Opening up on the extent of her heartbreak, she mentioned the simple, everyday things that she is missing.

“To go see them after not seeing them for weeks on end, not being able to take them to school, pick them up from school, dress them, smell them, hug them…,” she said.

The couple had initially been awarded equally shared custody after Kelly filed for divorce back in 2008, but the problem arose when Daniel was denied re-entry to the US three years ago. Judges later ruled that the shared custody arrangements should remain in place, and that the children should remain in France as Girsch is unable to enter the US.

We can’t imagine how devastating this must be.
