In the past number of weeks we have been following and reporting on the story of actress Kelly Rutherford, who has been fighting to get her two young children back to the US after a judge ordered they move to France to live with their father.

Kelly recently launched a petition to help get her eight- and five-year-old children back to the States, with a number of celebrities signing up to show their support. As of last week, the petition had received the requisite number of signatures – 100,000 – to be brought before the White House.

However, in an upsetting turn of events for Gossip Girl star Kelly, the children’s father, Daniel Giersch, reportedly prevented her from seeing the children on her latest trip to France this week.

According to reports by People magazine, not only was the 46-year-old actress stopped from seeing son Hermes and daughter Helena, but Giersch has also insisted that Rutherford hand over the children’s passports if she is to be reunited with the little ones.

Giersch’s lawyer issued a statement which read: “Any statement to the public suggesting that if someone were to bring the children back to America… that he or she would be a hero, is unacceptable on many levels. It creates a very real and present risk to the children’s safety and wellbeing that must be taken seriously.”

“As a result of such statements by Kelly, Daniel has had to take necessary precautions in accordance with the parties’ Judgment and custody orders, which includes requesting that the children’s passports be held by a neutral person when the children are not travelling,” he added.

This is a truly heartbreaking case for all involved. We just hope that the children will not be adversely affected by what is going on between their parents.
