Actress Alicia Vikander and fellow actor, the German-born, Kerry-raised Michael Fassbender are known for being notoriously private when it comes to their relationship.

Vikander and Fassbender met while working on the film The Light Between the Oceans together, and always kept talk of their pairing low-key. So, when it came to their wedding, it made sense for the couple to tie the knot and not tell anyone about it.

Which is exactly what happened.

The 29-year-old married Fassbender in Spain and honeymooned in Italy before the press ever got word it had happened. The affair was said to have been elegant and luxurious and surrounded by a close-knit gathering of family and friends, which seems to be perfectly fitting for the adorable (and undeniably talented), couple.

Now Vikander, who is on the promotional circuit promoting her new film, the anticipated Tomb Raider reboot (she steps into Angelina Jolie's shoes as Laura Croft), has opened up about their relationship for the first time publicly to Vogue Magazine.

“I feel I’m more happy and content than I’ve ever been,” Vikander revealed.

"It’s not about being secretive. It’s just about choosing the few things that you keep private."

Speaking about the process of making a film together while being in a relationship, the actress said, despite the fact that her now-husband was the more experienced of the pair, he continually turned to her for advice and support, which only made the process all the easier.

"I think he’s one of the absolute best actors I’ve worked with.  Of course, he’d done more films than me, but immediately when we started to work together he was so open to wanting me to chip in new ideas and thoughts," she explained.

"He would be like, 'I'm stuck; what should I do?' and I would say, "You’re asking me?' That was such a sweet thing."

Life is about a lot more than work, but if it’s also your biggest passion, of course it’s something you enjoy talking about."
