If you thought today was a little bit warmer than a normal September, you'd have been correct!
In fact, it was OFFICIALLY the hottest September since 1911, as temperatures soared to an incredible 34.4°C in Gravesend, Kent.

Heathrow reached an scorching 32.8°C, and the heatwave means it is hotter here than in Madrid or even L.A!
It's reached 32.2 °C at Heathrow. The last time we saw above 32 °C in September was back in 1949 #heatwave

Unfortunately for those of us who love nothing more than basking in the wonderful sunshine, the heatwave is not expected to last, with cooler temperatures forecast for the rest of the week.

"Because the heat is going to arrive very soon, think today about what you can do, and for those around you, to stay cool during the daytime and particularly at night," Thomas Waite, from the extreme events team at Public Health England, said.
"Much of the advice on beating the heat is common sense and for most people there's nothing to really worry about.
"But for some people, such as older people, those with underlying health conditions and those with young children, summer heat can bring real health risks."
Unfortunately, however, not everyone was treated to some unexpected sunshine today, with many taking to Twitter to complain about the lack of heatwave in their area.
