A five-month-old baby girl has become the youngest person in Britain to have had a double lung transplant after she underwent the life-saving surgery.

Imogen Bolton was diagnosed with Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia – an often fatal disease – which meant her lungs were not developing properly.

Imogen found breathing difficult and her heart overworked as she spent her first month in London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Doctors initially feared the little girl’s 9lb 15oz body was too small and underdeveloped to handle a surgery of such magnitude.

"Then they told us the biggest issue would be finding a donor,” Imogen’s mum Hayley told The Sun.

“When that finally happened, my legs went from under me."

The successful surgery now makes Imogen to youngest ever Briton, and possibly Europe, to undergo a double lung transplant.
