Music classes for babies and children delivered in a calm, nurturing and supportive environment.
At Little Maestros we believe that music classes don't have to be loud and hectic to be fun and educational. Babies, children and their carers will be exposed to a variety of music and activities in a supportive, nurturing and calm environment, but have lots of fun too. During every 45-minute class, your child will have the opportunity to sing, dance and move, play instruments and listen.
Little Maestros has been devised and will be led by Samantha Atkinson, a musician with more than 15 years industry experience. After working in the education and projects departments of two professional chamber orchestras in London, Samantha co-founded Create in 2003, a creative arts charity.
Babies are intuitively musical. They can hear sounds in the womb and use music as a way of communicating before they can talk. Music stimulates all areas of the brain and is therefore the perfect medium for learning in a fun way. Music researchers have found that one-year old babies who participate in interactive music classes smile more, show better early communication skills, like pointing at objects that are out of reach or waving goodbye and show less distress when things don't go their way.
Little Maestros classes will:
- introduce babies and children to a wide variety of music, including classical, jazz, world music, etc.
- be fun, interactive, engaging and participative
- introduce babies and children to a variety of musical instruments
- encourage babies and children to actively participate in creating music
- involve singing, listening, playing instruments and moving/responding to music
