There is nothing more incredible than bringing a baby into the world, but the latest story to emerge from Australia is bittersweet.

After her husband died in a motor bike accident, his wife not only had to deal with the loss of the man she loved, but also her chance to have a baby with him.

However, according to the Mirror, thanks to incredible advances in IVF, she successfully managed to give birth to a healthy baby after her husband’s sperm was extracted two days after his death.

Doctors have described the latest successful procedure a “most extraordinary case” after the longest time sperm had previously been taken posthumously was 30 hours.

While the names of the family have been kept quiet due to legal reasons, it has been reported that it took two days for doctors to be given the go-ahead after the mother was able to prove that she and her husband were planning on having children. The procedure then had to be undertaken in Canberra, the only place in Australia where sperm can be removed without written consent.

Details of the medical procedure will be revealed at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists world conference by Steve Robson, an IVF expert, next week.

Talking about the incredible procedure, Steve said: "On a professional level this has been, from my perspective, a love story, and it has been incredible to be involved with helping a woman who has so much love and courage."

The mother became pregnant at the first attempt and gave birth to a healthy baby last year, despite experts fears that DNA might have been damaged. In fact, according to reports, Infertility specialist Kelton Tremellen thought it was “a waste of time”.

What an incredible story, we wish the family all the best.
