A British mother who was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was eight months pregnant has tragically passed away this week.

Louise Winstanley, from Liverpool, passed away from complications from a stem cell transplant on Sunday, May 14. She was just 29 years old, and leaves behind her partner, Peter, along with their two-year-old son Jaxon, and four-month-old daughter Harlow.

The devoted mother’s sad story began back in December, while she was eight months pregnant with her daughter. A routine blood test resulted in a terrifying diagnosis: Louis was fighting acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

Louise was later induced and welcomed baby Harlow Rose into the world via C-section. The tot was placed in intensive care and is now doing well at home with her family.

Louise began a course of chemotherapy a few weeks after the birth, and the signs looked good when she went into remission. However, a complication arose when Louise went back to hospital for a stem cell transplant.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the mother contracted an infection which resulted in kidney and liver failure. Sadly, she passed away last Sunday, May 14.

On a fundraising page (link here) set up online by a relative, Louise is described as a “beautiful, kind, caring and loved” mum, daughter, fiancée, auntie, sister, cousin and friend.

“She overcame so many obstacles on this journey, making us so proud of her strength and determination to beat this cruel disease,” wrote Alexis Winstanley.

“Louise will forever be in our hearts throughout the rest of our lives. We will see her always in her children, Jaxon and Harlow, every day as they grow up and make her so proud.

“If you were thinking of sending flowers; as beautiful as these are, they will only wilt and fade. We want her memory to live on, and it will through her children, so please donate to this fund so it will be placed in a trust for Jaxon and Harlow.”

In her latest update to the page, Alexis thanked everyone who donated or left a warm, supportive message for her and her family.

“We know that Louise will be so overwhelmed and thankful for the support she has been given for her two beautiful children, Jaxon and Harlow,” she added.

We’re thinking of the family at this most tragic time.
