When a family suffers the devastation of losing a baby at birth, it can be traumatising to find an outfit to dress them in.

So with this in mind, a woman chose to do the sweetest, most poignant thing with her wedding dress – she had it made into beautiful mini gowns for angel babies.

Justi Underwood Bates sent her wedding dress away to be made into white satin dresses for babies that don’t make it home from hospital, with the intention of donating them to the NICU at Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Today I received my wedding gown back,” Justi wrote in a post on her Facebook page. “17 little gowns were made from my dress and as beautiful as they are I pray they are never needed.”

Justi chose to have her dress cut up because she wanted it to have a “purpose”.

“It meant too much to me to just let it hang there and be forgotten about for the next few decades so I sent it off to be made into angel gowns and to have a purpose,” she told the Daily Mail.

“I’m so thankful it has [gone viral] because now the word is out that a wedding dress can do more than take up closet space,” she added. “It can be a small help for family in a tragic situation.”
