A nurse has become an internet sensation this weekend, after a photo of her breastfeeding a screaming baby to soothe her during surgery went viral.
It has emerged that little Wei Wei became very upset during surgery to remove an anal abscess, and nurse Li Baoxia decided to breastfeed the child in order to allow the procedure to continue.
Because of her small size, little Wei Wei could only be put under local anaesthetic. Although Li Baoxia had just come out of theatre from another procedure, she believed that – as she was still lactating – she could be of some help.
Lead surgeon Zhao Zhengyuan has since revealed that he was prepared to call off the surgery entirely until Li came and saved the day.
The baby’s father has now hailed Li as an ‘angel nurse’, saying that he ‘could not thank her enough’.
The image of Li and Wei Wei has now gone viral around the world, with many touched by their story.
