A British teenager has sadly passed away after falling from a popular whale-watching ledge in Sydney, Australia.

The youngster was on holidays with his friends when he slipped on the rocks at Cape Solander while taking a selfie, according to the Evening Standard

It is believed he lost his balance and plunged 30ft into the sea below. His friends were unsuccessful in trying to reach him and the young man was found face down in the water by a police boat.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

“At this stage it would appear as though it was a misadventure, he has slipped, and fallen over the edge and unfortunately died," New South Wales Police Chief Inspector Chris Hill said.

According to reports, the area where the young man fell is popular with tourists wanting to see humpback whales.

Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this heartbreaking time.
