Five-month-old Ivy-Mai Geary was born with severe congenital neutropenia, a rare blood condition that prevents her fighting off infections.

The youngster, who was born in July, will be undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in the New Year at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Her grandmother, Valleri Ruthven, has set up a JustGiving page to raise vital funds so that Ivy-Mai’s mum and dad, Dominque Kent and Anthony Geary, who will have to stay with her for two months, won’t have to worry about can bills.

With the help of the public, Valleri is hoping to raise £3,000, £500 of which will be used to cover hospital expenses.

“It’s obviously very worrying as we just want her immune system to get stronger as quickly as possible,” Miss Kent told the Echo News, before adding that her partner had to take extended leave from work due to travelling to and from the hospital.

According to her grandmother, if the bone marrow transplant is successful Ivy-Mai may not have to stay in hospital anymore.
