A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens that gradually results in the reduction of vision. The natural lens sits behind the iris in the area of the pupil, and cannot be directly seen by the naked eye unless it becomes cloudy. The lens is responsible for focusing uninterrupted light on the retina at the back of the eye. Cataracts can impede light from reaching the retina which can result in vision being obstructed.
