The lens of they eye needs to change its shape or length in order to focus on smaller objects, or objects that are up close or far away. This is known as the elasticity of the lens. As people age, this elasticity is slowly reduced and eventually results in the inability of the eye to focus on nearby objects. This is why people over the age of 40 might find themselves holding objects further away in order to see it clearly.Presbyopia is a natural part of the aging process and it affects almost everyone to some degree.
