There has been huge celebration in hundreds of homes in Japan after their littlest residents set a new world record in recent days!

More than 600 babies, aged between six and sixteen-months-old, took part in an event which heralded the largest ever crawling competition.

Geared for action in the Yokohama Mall in Tokyo, hundreds of adorable tots took their places, primed themselves for glory, and didn't disappoint!

Encouraged by proud parents, who enticed their little ones with toys along the route, the triumphant babies smashed the record previously held by 451 equally as eager infants.

Officials for the Guinness World Record attended the event, with Guinness World Record Japan Manager, Gulnav Ukassova, congratulating all those involved, announcing "The number of participants was 601 so a new record is set!"

What an adorable group of over-achievers!
