Following days of speculation, Charlie Sheen’s highly-anticipated interview on the Today show has aired, with the actor finally addressing those HIV reports.

The father-of-five appeared in an interview special with show host Matt Lauer, confirming that he is indeed HIV positive.

Sources had previously tipped the 50-year-old to share his story after it was reported that he was due to make a ‘revealing personal announcement’ this week.

“I have to admit that I am in fact HIV positive…I have a responsibility now to better myself and help a lot of other people,” the former Two and A Half Men actor said.

Of the motivation behind sharing the information with the world, Sheen added: “I have to put a stop to this barrage of attacks and sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me that threaten the health of so many others. It couldn’t be farther from the truth.”

The Wall Street actor revealed that he was diagnosed with the condition four years ago. He added that the chances of having transmitted the illness to another person were “impossible”.

Sheen is father to 31-year-old Cassandra, 11-year-old Sam, 10-year-old Lola, and six-year-old twin sons Bob and Max.
