While this is no doubt a very exciting time, spending lots of time in swimming pools and at the beach always carries a risk and a necessity to reiterate safety protocols and warnings.
This warning has come today, courtesy of the Wavepool Lifeguard Rescue 24, which has shared a YouTube video displaying just how easy it is for a drowning child to go unnoticed.
The footage shows a public swimming pool full of parents and children in inflatable rings, with a lifeguard looking on. While at first it seems as though all is well in the pool, the lifeguard suddenly blows her whistle and jumps into the pool, swimming over to the aid of a young child.
It takes close inspection, but by going back and watching footage of the middle of the pool closely, you will see a child being toppled over in his ring and struggling to overturn it. Thankfully, the lifeguard spotted that the boy was in trouble – unlike the many, many people around him.
This video will really make you think. It has now gone viral, with parents everywhere sharing the footage in a bid to raise health and safety awareness for others.
