CVS can result in the following:
  • Dehydration: Because of the loss of water from vomiting, dehydration can be severe and if it occurs, should be treated immediately.
  • Electrolyte imbalance: This is when the body loses salt that is need to stay healthy
  • Peptic esophagitis: The esophagus, which is the tube from your mouth to your stomach, can be damaged from stomach acid which passes through the tube while vomiting.
  • Hematemesis: The esophagus bleeds, and there is blood in the vomit.
  • Mallory-Weiss tear: The lower part of the esophagus might tear or the stomach might bruise from retching.
  • Tooth decay: The acid in vomit may corrode tooth enamel.
