CVS can result in the following:
- Dehydration: Because of the loss of water from vomiting, dehydration can be severe and if it occurs, should be treated immediately.
- Electrolyte imbalance: This is when the body loses salt that is need to stay healthy
- Peptic esophagitis: The esophagus, which is the tube from your mouth to your stomach, can be damaged from stomach acid which passes through the tube while vomiting.
- Hematemesis: The esophagus bleeds, and there is blood in the vomit.
- Mallory-Weiss tear: The lower part of the esophagus might tear or the stomach might bruise from retching.
- Tooth decay: The acid in vomit may corrode tooth enamel.
