Loss of vision
Neonatal conjunctivitis, if left untreated can result in permanent damage to your baby’s vision. It can lead to an irritation or inflammation of the iris. Corneal ulceration can occur as a result of bacterial conjunctivitis. Symptoms attributed to corneal ulcerations include severe eye pain, sensitivity to light, and blindness in serious cases.
 
Pneumonia
After having conjunctivitis caused by chlamydia, some infants may develop a form of pneumonia called chlamydia pneumonia which is a disease which affects the lungs. Symptoms can be severe and even life threatening in some cases. In these severe cases hospitalisation may be required.
