Serious concern was raised regarding the welfare of world-famous singer/songwriter, Sinead O' Connor, this weekend after the famous mum-of-four appeared to threaten suicide on Facebook.

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer, who underwent a hysterectomy in recent months, used her social media channel as a platform to lay bare her feelings on recent events, and suggested she was no longer capable of dealing with her struggles.

Slamming her family members for their supposed lack of concern, Sinead informed her fans and followers that she had taken an overdose, writing: "I have taken an overdose. There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I'm at a hotel, somewhere in Ireland, under another name."

Sinead's harrowing post in which she suggests she was subject to 'appalling cruelty' in recent days sent social media into overdrive as concerned members of the public contacted authorities in an effort to save the 48-year-old star from herself.

Shortly after the publication of the post yesterday, 48-year-old Sinead was found by police who subsequently informed press and media outlets that the singer was "safe and sound" while a representative for the star confirmed that the mum-of-four was "unwell and receiving treatment."

Message of support have flooded in for the star who first rose to fame in the early 1990s, with one fan writing: "Stay strong, Sinead! You are loved by millions of people worldwide and we are gathering to send you that immense love."

Our thoughts are with Sinead today.
