Huge congratulations are in order as Saoirse Ronan has won her first Golden Globe. The 23-year-old won the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical award for her role in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird.
Saoirse beat some of the biggest actresses in the industry including Judi Dench, Emma Stone, Helen Mirren, and Margot Robbie
The role that won Saoirse the award is one her best yet. The actress plays a senior student at a Catholic school in the award-winning coming-of-age flick. The film may follow the strained relationship between Ronan’s character and her mum, but unlike her character, Saoirse shares a close bond with her mum.

During her acceptance speech, the Brooklyn star gave a shout out to her mum, who was unable to attend the dazzling awards show.
The actress opened her speech by saying, “My mam is on FaceTime over there on someone’s phone, so hi!”
Despite having very little time to express her gratitude, Saoirse delivered an effective and moving speech.

The star noted how inspirational it was to attend the event as hundreds of Hollywood stars donned black ensembles in honour of the Times Up campaign.
“I just want to say how inspirational it’s been to be in this room tonight. I just want to thank all of the women who I love so much in my own life who support me every day- my mother.”

We are thrilled for Saoirse- the luck of the Irish was certainly on her side last night.
