The parents of Charlie Gard were left devastated this afternoon, when details of the 11-month-old’s latest MRI scan were read out in court.

According to the Mail Online, mother Connie Yates ran out of court upset, after a lawyer representing Great Ormond Street Hospital commented on the MRI report before it had even been shown to her and her partner, Chris Gard.

Today’s hearing, at the High Court, took an emotional twist when Katie Gollop QC told Mr Justice Francis: “The MRI report has come through. It makes for very sad reading.”

An emotional Connie is said to have shouted, “That’s not how we are supposed to read it”, before running out in frustration.

Charlie’s father Chris, meanwhile, is reported to have branded the lawyer ‘evil’ after the revelation.

Calling the court to order, Mr Justice Francis said: “I know it is very difficult for the parents. It is unfortunate that Miss Yates had to hear what she heard.”

The latest update in the story comes just days after Charlie was granted US citizenship, thanks to two congressmen who tabled a bill to help him.

In the meantime, Dr Michio Hirano was flown to London from the States, to conduct examinations on Charlie; this was to determine whether or not the proposed experimental treatment his parents are seeking will help him.

While Connie and Chris believe that Charlie shows signs that he may improve in the future, experts at GOSH have insisted that he will have ‘no quality of life’ going forward.

Charlie’s parents have already lost their appeals at national level, and once again in Europe before the Court of Human Rights.

A final decision in Charlie’s case is expected next week, on July 25.
