When Chris Kudla was diagnosed with a rare form of stage four kidney cancer back in November 2017, he had only been working for the Riverside Police Department in Illinois for eight months.
The 45-year-old told his police chief that he did not want to stop working, even though he had doctor’s appointments and chemotherapy sessions twice a month,
Although the police chief told him that they would try to work around it, there was a problem.

As Chris was a relatively new employee, he had not worked up enough sick days to cover his treatment.
So what happened?
His co-workers all stepped forward and gave all of their sick days to Chris.
As if that wasn't amazing enough, all across the city, civil servants and city staff members joined together in donating their sick days to Chris.
So far, Chris has clocked up almost 6 months worth of sick days.
Isn't that extraordinary?
In addition to this, the police department started a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for Chris' treatment.
It stands at a whopping $41,000 after seven months.
Chris told CBS News, “everybody without hesitation stepped up to help out.''
“Sometimes when you start to lose faith in humanity and you think that this world’s gone down the wrong path and there ain’t no coming back, something like this happens.”
