Each and every baby who enters the world is a special and unique gift who should be celebrated to the high heavens. There was something extra-special about the Driskell babies who entered the world on May 2, however.

Zoey, Asher, Gavin, Dakota and Hollyn are part of a phenomenon that occurs in every one-in-50 million births – they are quintuplets!

The Driskell quintuplets are the beloved newborns of US couple Briana and Jordan, who underwent five rounds of fertility treatment in order to become parents.

They have shared their story with local newspaper The Lexington Herald Leader, joking that they ‘got their money’s worth’ with their little darlings.

Initially, the Driskells were told that they only had a ‘four to eight per cent chance’ of producing three or more babies with their course of treatment. A scan at eight weeks confirmed that Briana and Jordan had successfully turned that statistic on its head.

Naturally, Briana and Jordan were delighted when they were told that they were expecting quints, but the pregnancy journey was not easy for the mum-to-be.

Firstly, Briana was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. The 29-year-old ended up being hospitalised with the condition; dehydrated and vomiting.

Briana suffered yet another setback at 22 weeks – her cervix showed signs of shortening, and doctors told her she was at risk of going into labour. She remained in hospital, in her native Kentucky, until she reached the 28-week mark – and her babies were delivered shortly after.

The Driskell quints – three boys and two girls – entered the world on May 2, and it was love at first sight for the proud new parents.

Briana, who met her babies the day after their birth, told the Leader: “They say you never know love until you’ve had a child, and wow – especially having five – I mean it’s five times over. I just cried and cried. I couldn’t even speak.

“We ended up getting one baby for every treatment that we tried. We got our money’s worth; it just took us a little longer.”

What an experience! We’re wishing Briana and Jordan all the best with the exciting – and no doubt already exhausting – journey ahead!
