Brad Williams from Philadelphia  is a massive fan of Philly Cheesesteaks.

For those of you that haven't been to Philadelphia recently, a cheesesteak type is sandwich native to the area.

Usually containing slices of beef steak, cheese and onions on a foot-long roll it can be used to... measure a baby?

When his son, Lucas, was a newborn, Williams picked up this particular delicacy for dinner.

Returning home, he realised that the sandwich was the same size as 2-week-old Lucas.

And thus a cheesy (pun intended) tradition was born.

He snapped a joke-picture for his Instagram, eventually realising that his could be a fun way to document his sons first year.

"I took a picture showing the [cheesesteak for scale] and my friends and family absolutely loved it," Williams told Cafemom.

For the next year, Williams documents his sons growth using the "Cheesesteak for scale" system.

Williams says that his wife has been supportive of his project. Little Lucas, however, hasn't exactly fallen in love with the cheesesteak yet.

Now that a year has been reached, Williams has the chance to reflect on the similarities between babies and a large, messy sandwich:

"Wrapped up they are warm and cuddly, but once you unwrap them, expect a huge mess. Either way, both are worth it."

Going forward, Williams plans to make the cheesesteak measurements an annual tradition. Although, he notes, it might get more challenging was Lucas gets older:

"Should be fun, trying to get 13 year-old Lucas to lay next to a cheesesteak for a picture."
