Cynthia Nixon, best known for her role as Miranda in Sex and the City, has lost the Democratic Party nomination in the race for New York State Governor.

The mum-of-three announced her bid for the governorship in March. She received the support of her Sex and the City co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo received the nomination for a third term, garnering 95 percent of the delegates' votes at the Democratic convention, CNN reports.

Hillary Clinton was among those who decided to support Cuomo.

Nixon told reports earlier in the day that she is no a 'protest candidate'.

"I am a viable candidate who is really running hard for the nomination. I'm here, you can't shut me out, you can't ignore me," she said.

Indeed, the 52-year-old isn't going to be shut out; she still intends to run, according to The Telegraph.

Lauren Hitt, a member of Nixon's team, has said that they plan to get on the ballot via petition and 'no one on the team thinks that will be a problem'.

After failing to secure the nomination, Nixon tweeted, "Governor Cuomo is not a true progressive—he's in bed with the GOP. It's no secret that the Governor has routinely worked to empower Republicans in New York, while actively assailing Democrats."

Her fans flocked to Instagram to send messages of support.

"Keep fighting!!! We need someone like you running our state!" one person commented.

"You're a bada** Cynthia! If I lived in NY I'd vote for you for sure. You're the obvious choice," another wrote.
