Just because we’re restricted to 140 characters per tweet, doesn’t mean that we can’t still tell a compelling story over Twitter – this is something that new father Marco Rogers has proven this week like no other.
The web-developer and his start-up founder wife, Aniyia Williams, welcomed a daughter at the weekend, in very dramatic circumstances. And, being tech-lovers, it makes sense that they would take to social media to share the highs and lows of their experience.
Having delivered his daughter in his home, Marco shared every – and we mean every – detail of the experience on Twitter, and has become a viral internet sensation as a result.
You can check out his Twitter account for the full rundown of the tweets, but we’ll give fill you in the big moments here!
Starting off his story, Marco revealed that Aniyia was nervous about giving birth, and she was taken by surprise when she woke up last Saturday morning, at home, to contractions.
Marco went on to measure the contractions using an app, on a scale of one to five, and things started to get pretty intense when Aniyia hit four on the tracker.
Then Strong contractions. Number 4 on the scale. I remember because it was the first time a sound involuntarily escaped my wife's mouth.

After ringing the hospital, Marco was assured that Aniyia was okay to remain at home just then – something which he felt confident about, seeing as his wife was “hanging in there”.
However, as labour progressed, Marco – along with his father-in-law – decided to put Aniyia into the bath and crack out a hypno-birthing book – it wasn’t much help, as his tweets prove!
Okay this has been a lot of build up. But things start to go pretty fast at this point. Strap in y'all.

So the contractions are legit now. I remember the last one she had before the tub was the first time she actually exclaimed. "Jesus Christ".

At that point, the couple knew that the baby was coming sooner rather than later, and after Aniyia’s waters broke, Marco steeled himself to deliver the baby.
Let me tell y'all something. Most of us only know late stage labor from what we see in movies. Some of it is accurate, but not the sound.

It's not a scream, it's not a brave grunt, it's not tense teeth gritting. My father in law described it as a wail. Low and heart-wrenching.

With a little help from a book, Marco delivered his own daughter – and he was as overwhelmed as you can imagine: “I wanna catch the Holy Ghost and pass out. But I can’t…’cause, you know, I’m holding a baby.”
At the same time, I'm hyper focused. Tunnel vision. She wails again and my baby girl's head comes out. I see her face for the first time.

Y'all. I can't really describe what it's like to try to do that. To try to reach in with your hands and pull a baby out of a vagina.
— Marco Rogers (@polotek) January 8, 2016
I can't do it. I was so afraid that I would hurt her or my wife. Probably both. She feels so fragile. I can't. But I have to. What do I do?
— Marco Rogers (@polotek) January 8, 2016
Then it became a moot point. A fresh contraction starts. Wailing. Pushing. And Noemi Rose Rogers pops right out into my hands.

Thankfully, emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after and took over. In his final tweet, Marco shared a gorgeous photo of his baby girl, “the star of the show”.

Phew! Does it get much more dramatic than that?! Well done to Marco and Aniyia, and congratulations on the new arrival.
